VERSACE, FROM CALABRIA TO INTERNATIONAL RUNWAYS
Elton John has always worn its jewelry and Princess Diana’s wardrobe nearly always bore its signature. But it has also graced the figures of Jennifer Lopez, Madonna, Britney Spears, Halle Berry, and Lady Gaga. We’re talking about Versace, the fashion house established in 1978 by designer Gianni Versace, and left to his brother Santo (today the President) and his sister Donatella (today Vice President and Chief Designer). While the brand’s headquarters have always been in Milan, the Versace family is actually from Reggio Calabria, where the three siblings grew up, working from a young age beside their mother in the family’s tailor shop. Today Versace has approximately eighty exclusive boutiques across the world and hundreds of dealers within large department stores like Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks Fifth Avenue.
