SAN PIETROBURGO UNA CITTÀ COSTRUITA “ALL’ITALIANA”
San Pietroburgo, la magnifica città russa fondata nel 1730 da Pietro il Grande è italiana. Divenuta Pietrogrado e poi Leningrado, oggi è tornata a chiamarsi col suo vecchio nome e a celebrare le sue glorie.
Lo Zar, intenzionato a realizzare una “finestra russa” sull’Occidente, aveva chiamato a costruirla e decorarla i migliori artisti europei e soprattutto gli italiani, che avevano fama d’indiscussa eccellenza. Giunse così l’architetto Quarenghi che costruì importanti edifici come il Teatro dell’Hermitage e l’Accademia delle Scienze. La presenza dell’Italia nella città fu ricca di splendidi apporti, non solo sul piano architettonico, ma anche su quello delle arti figurative e della letteratura.
