MARIA MONTESSORI, UNA DONNA CHE HA FATTO SCUOLA
Prima donna in Italia laureata in medicina e costantemente impegnata a favore dei bambini diversamente abili. Nel 1906 fondò la “Casa dei Bambini” ed iniziò l’attività educativa in un quartiere operaio a Roma. È qui che per la prima volta viene applicato il cosiddetto “metodo Montessori”, basato sul principio fondamentale che il bambino possiede già il germe della sua personalità: l’adulto deve quindi solo aiutarlo a farla crescere.

The first Italian woman to earn a degree in medicine and known for her constant work on behalf of handicapped children. In1906 she founded the ‘Children’s House’ and began her educational work in one of Rome’s working class neighborhoods. It was here that the socalled ‘Montessori method’ was applied for the first time, based on the fundamental principle that a
child already has the seed of his or her personality within: the adult, therefore, must only encourage it grow.
