Si occupò di anatomia, ingegneria militare e civile, idraulica, ottica, musica, botanica, astronomia, geofisica. A lui si devono osservazioni straordinarie sulla luce e sul volo degli uccelli, sul cosmo e sulla natura. Senza naturalmente dimenticare il suo ineguagliabile talento nella pittura e nella scultura, a cui dobbiamo opere come La Gioconda e L’Ultima Cena. Tutto questo è Leonardo da Vinci, umanista scienziato e artista, allo stesso tempo intellettuale e visionario, limpido ed enigmatico. Il suo “multiforme ingegno” ha attraversato i secoli, dal Cinquecento ad oggi, lasciandoci in eredità un patrimonio – tra opere e scritti (più di 16.000 pagine, con decine di migliaia di disegni) – che ci lasciano ancora oggi stupefatti della sua sete incontenibile di conoscenza e, soprattutto, dell’eccezionale modernità del suo pensiero.

He dealt with anatomy, military and civil engineering, hydraulics, optics, music, botany, as-tronomy, geophysics… He was responsible for extraordinary observations regarding light and the flight of birds, the universe and nature. And then there is of course his unparalleled talent in painting and sculpture, to which we owe The Mona Lisa and The Last Supper. This is Leonardo da Vinci, artist and scientific humanist, both intellectual and visionary, logical and enigmatic. His ‘multifaceted genius’ has spanned centuries, from the 1500s to the present day, leaving us a great patrimony – between works and manuscripts (over 16,000 pages with tens of thousands of drawings) – which continues to astound us with the unquenchable thirst for knowledge and, above all, the exceptionally modern way of thinking that it represents.
